Sutherland North Public School is a vibrant learning community with 243 students. The school offers a broad range of educational and social opportunities in an inclusive, safe and friendly environment where dedicated staff are responsive to individual needs. The school is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney and set in park-like grounds. Recently refurbished, the school buildings include a canteen, library, Connected Classroom and an attractive new hall. Classrooms are inviting learning spaces with a range of resources including: Interactive Whiteboards, computers and hands-on materials. The school prides itself on its friendly, family atmosphere, built on the belief that children learn best through a strong partnership between home and school. The staff are experienced, dedicated and committed to providing quality educational programs for all students. Regular professional learning sessions ensure staff are well informed and equipped to provide relevant, appropriate learning opportunities for the range of learners. Emphasis is placed on the development of literacy and numeracy skills across all learning areas. As well as classroom programs, there is a variety of activities throughout the year to complement the learning experience. These include: visiting performers, excursions, health and fitness programs, sports carnivals, assemblies, public performances, local library visits, learn to swim groups and a camp for senior students. Various extra-curricular activities are offered by the school, e.g. environment group, choirs, dance groups and school band. The dance groups and choirs perform in district music festivals. The school also participates in the District Schools' Public Speaking Competition. Other programs, e.g. gymnastics and DanceSport, are offered, to broaden the experiences of students who demonstrate talent and motivation. The school has traditionally been strong at athletics, swimming and sport, entering several teams in summer and winter inter-school competitions. Effective student welfare programs ensure the nurture of all students. Learning support staff, including a school counsellor, provide expertise to assist students with special needs. In addition to the regular curriculum and extra-curricular activities, specific programs designed to address the social and emotional needs of students operate in the school. Student Welfare programs include: Peer Support, Child Protection, Student Representative Council, Drug Education, Bike Safety, Anti-bullying Education; and merit, citizenship and sport awards.
