Zig Zag Public School

Zig Zag Public School is located in Oakey Park, Lithgow. The school was originally established in 1891. A unique feature of the school is that it is a small school with a country atmosphere within the Lithgow environs. The picturesque parkland environment of the school is a key feature. The playground includes a new tennis court and extensive play equipment across three grassed levels. There are designated appropriate play areas to cater to individual needs and ages. The rural setting and historic building are complimented by state of the art technology. It incorporates connected classroom facilities and interactive whiteboards in every classroom, as well as the Library/ Learning Centre, to provide individualised supportive technology. Our newly constructed multi-purpose building facilitates our Creative Arts program. We have an ongoing and high reputation of excellence in visual arts. At our school we aim to provide an excellent, balanced education for all students in our care. We promote inclusive education by providing extra support through experienced teachers and specialist support staff. We have both stable leadership and highly skilled and dedicated staff. We enjoy a harmonious working relationship between the children, staff and families. The development of core values are firmly established and visible within our school. Social skills, courtesy, manners, concern, tolerance, acceptance of others and self-discipline remain high on the school's agenda. Parents are valued and encouraged to be involved in our school planning and implementation of our programs. The school offers a strong student leadership and peer support program which extends into the Western Gateway Educational Community of schools. The school has a long and proud tradition of sporting participation and achievements. We also have a strong focus on environmental education utilising our unique proximity to bushland and a natural water flowing creek. We will be following the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program which will promote sustainability through children planting, growing and cooking vegetables We enjoy a close partnership with Landcare and local councils. This is balanced by participation in programs such as the Premier's Reading Challenge and the Premier's Spelling Bee. The school achieves its mission "Learning for Life" by ensuring each child reaches his or her full potential, in a safe and happy family orientated environment. Visit the school website.
