Windellama Public School
Windellama Public School provides an innovative learning environment for the local community. The school currently supports the learning of 32 students with two full-time teachers. The school is located 35km from Goulburn in a peaceful rural setting surrounded by farmland. There are over 30 networked computers available for student use which allows for daily access to modern teaching and learning tools. The school has an interactive whiteboard in each classroom and videoconferencing facilities to enhance the delivery of teaching and learning programs. There is a fully functional Library that provides high quality literary resources to support learning. Windellama Public School has excellent facilities for a variety of outdoor activities including sport, adventure play and environmental education. There is a highly motivated and dedicated staff who share a strong commitment to quality teaching. Staff follow a regular program of professional learning to continually improve their delivery of excellent learning programs. Windellama Public School promotes student participation and leadership in a variety of forms. Students engage in regular mentoring activities and participate in a Student Parliament to improve the life of students at the school. Recent achievements include charity fundraisers, construction and maintenance of a student vegetable garden, implementation of a recycling program, participation in a community tree planting day and the running of regular lunchtime activities such as dance competitions, soccer challenges and dress-up days. Parents and staff work together to enhance the learning experiences of all students. There is a family atmosphere at the school with regular parent and community involvement. The school P and C are regular contributors to learning programs and facilities. Recent achievements include the successful conduct of a community auction and fireworks night that raised over $10 000, donation of funds to supply air-conditioners to all rooms, a successful grant application to build a new sports shed and the successful implementation of a fully resourced playgroup in the school's new multi-purpose room. There is an emphasis on literacy, numeracy, technology and quality teaching at Windellama. An integrated learning support program is in place with a part-time learning support teacher and three school learning support officers. Academic achievement and good citizenship are encouraged and recognised. Students are also provided with a variety of opportunities to achieve in the arts and sport with some recent representative success in swimming, athletics and choral performance. Several excursions are offered every term. These excursions explore important local, regional and national locations and help students to link with students from other schools to enrich their social learning experiences.
