Wilsons Creek Public School

Wilsons Creek Public School is a small rural school nestled in a beautiful lush North Coast rainforest. The serenity of Wilsons Creek, rich in native flora and fauna, fosters a harmonious and peaceful learning environment. Our school has a caring atmosphere, which values the contributions of all - students, parents, staff and the wider community. The school is well supported by the Parents and Citizens Association, which provides financial assistance to initiate and fund special projects. The school experiences strong community support; parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in school activities. These include assisting during classroom activities and participating in significant school events. The school prides itself on its firm but fair discipline, which facilitates academic, creative, sporting and social success. A unique feature of Wilsons Creek Public School is our dynamic modular system, which enables students to be taught by teachers who specialise across the Key Learning Areas of English, maths, science, human society and its environment, creative and practical arts and physical education, health and personal development. Small class sizes and innovative program delivery support effective student learning. We have a strong focus on developing student self-esteem, promoting academic excellence for all students and facilitating a culture for improvement. Our emphasis on art, drama and music inspires self-expression, builds self-esteem and supports student understanding of our place in the world. Enthusiastic participation in creative and practical arts fosters a love of learning and success across all aspects of school life. Consequently, the school has a strong emphasis on music, art and drama programs. All students have the opportunity to sing, play instruments, dance and act for enthusiastic, supportive and appreciative audiences. Additionally the school has an excellent arts program with our students regularly achieving success in school and community art projects. Students are involved in environmental projects and work collaboratively with Rous Water to investigate and report on the health of our local creek. The school is currently involved in a Reconnect to Country project with Rous Water, Sustainable Futures Australia and the traditional custodians. Sections of the creek have been cleared of weeds, and riparian vegetation has been regenerated. The school is very well resourced and has a tennis court, a basketball court and an art studio. The recently constructed state of the art library supports quality teaching and learning. The experienced staff work together as a team and are highly valued and appreciated for their professionalism, enthusiasm and caring commitment to student learning and welfare. Wilsons Creek Public School provides quality education in a safe and secure learning environment.
