Waratah Public School

Waratah Public School is a large inner city Newcastle school proudly serving the Waratah/Mayfield community. It has a long and distinguished history of providing students with quality education in a safe, happy and positive environment by a committed and passionate staff. The school works in a close, highly professional and strategic partnership with the Callaghan Education Pathways group of schools and is supported tirelessly by the School Parents & Citizens' Association. Equity and diversity are celebrated within the school, catering for 334 students from Kindergarten to year 6 and 80 preschool students. This enrolment includes over 20% Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander students and approximately 14% of students that have English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The school offers 14 mainstream classes, an Early Intervention class for preschool students and a multi categorical class.  Waratah Public also has two Learning and Support Teachers, a Reading Recovery teacher and English as a Second Language teacher.  "Be the Best That You Can Be" is a philosophy embedded throughout the school community.  Waratah Public School- Where Great Things Happen.
