Wallsend Public School

Wallsend Public School is located in the western corridor of Newcastle within easy access to the M1 and Hunter Expressway. Although one of the oldest schools in Newcastle, Wallsend Public School is well equipped and resourced to support students' learning and development in the 21st Century.  Our belief that "Successful learners show respect, take responsibility and make safe choices." underpins everything we do and promotes a kind and caring environment which has a strong focus on student well-being. Professional, qualified staff deliver a range of diverse opportunities  to engage students. These include gymnastics, competitive aerobics, dance, performing arts (music, drama, band and choir), sports, enrichment and support programs. Unique to Wallsend Public School, the 'Wrigglers Readiness for School Program' is available from term 2 for students enrolling in Kindergarten the following year. We are also very proud of our well known inclusive Yidaki (Didgeridoo) group who are led by a respected Aboriginal mentor and have represented Wallsend Public School at several major events. Our philosophy of inclusivity ensures all students can access all activities and opportunities including sitting for the NAPLAN tests with all achievements included in our data. Our curriculum focus is on improving outcomes for students in writing, comprehension and Mathematics with targeted programs implemented including  Focus on Reading, TEN and TOWN,  led by staff who are trained facilitators and mentors. Our phonetic based approach to literacy provides a strong foundation for the development of reading skills.  A K-6 focus on developing writing skills is designed to deliver improved results in writing. Wallsend Public School is a proud member of the Callaghan Education Pathways which provides students with a continuum of learning from primary schooling at Wallsend Public School to the Callaghan Wallsend Year 7 - 10 campus and continuing on to Callaghan Jesmond Senior Campus for Years 11 and 12. We value the support of the community and in particular the hard working members of the Wallsend Public School P & C  Association.  The fully accredited on-site before and after school care is coordinated and managed by the P & C Association ensuring a vital, professional  service to the community is available to support working families. We welcome you  to Wallsend Public School.
