Ultimo Public School

Ultimo Public School serves a culturally rich and diverse school community located in an exciting and historic urban environment in Sydney close to Darling Harbour, Haymarket and the CBD. A professional staff, committed to continually improving their teaching practice, work with the community to nurture and challenge students to achieve individual excellence in all areas of the curriculum. Quality teaching and learning programs are supported by high quality facilities and resources. The students at Ultimo Public School are encouraged to develop the values of care, compassion and respect and to see themselves as global citizens with global responsibilities. An emphasis on promoting student well-being, building strong relationships and on restorative practice creates a harmonious, respectful school culture. Environmental sustainability has become a key focus across all areas of learning. The current school enrolment is 335 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in 14 classes. Sixty six per cent of students have a language background other than English. Seventeen students are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 28% of students are Chinese speaking. Class programs are supported by teachers of English as a Second Language, a Learning Support Teacher, a Reading Recovery teacher, a Teacher Librarian and a full-time Chinese Community Language teacher. Specialist programs in Visual Arts and Music are provided. A strong partnership with parents is evident in the wide range of ways they participate in the life of the school. Productive partnerships with organisations from the wider community such as the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney University, local cooperatives and the Wentworth Park Sporting Complex Trust also deeply enrich student learning experiences. The school enjoys a sister school relationship with Jiang Wang Primary School in China. Our banner statement is ASPIRE - ACHIEVE - AMAZE. It was developed in partnership with our school community as part of a vision building process.  Our staff, students and their families believe that great things can be achieved while humility and perspective is maintained throughout life's journey.
