Ulong Public School

Ulong Public School has a total enrolment of 26 students and 2 teachers. We believe that every child is an individual, who can learn to their full potential in a safe, nurturing and healthy environment that promotes student learning, wellbeing and engagement. Ulong Public School works in strong partnership with parents and the wider community to provide for each child an education which is balanced, stimulating, rewarding and enjoyable that meets their current and emerging needs. Ulong Public School is situated on the edge of the village in the environmentally beautiful hinterland of Coffs Harbour. It is a member of the Orara Valley Community of Schools. Through this community of schools, students have opportunities to join with larger groups of students for sporting and cultural activities, including debating and excursions. This gives them big school opportunities while still retaining the daily benefits of small classes and individualised learning. Ulong Public School focuses on the achievement of each individual. We believe in the importance of literacy and numeracy building blocks and support the commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We ensure that the individual talents of students are encouraged and developed. The school is supported through additional funding from Early Action for Success which targets Literacy and Numeracy results in the early years for K-2 students. The school is well equipped to take advantage of technology in improving student outcomes. Students have the opportunity to use computers and IPads for word processing, creative projects, research, mathematics activities and a wide range of lessons. Students interact with other schools and have access to the wider community through our connected classroom, video conferencing capabilities and Interactive Smart boards. Ulong Public School has a strong on focus on student and community wellbeing and encourages mutual respect and responsibility. This is underpinned by developing students' awareness of the importance of positive choices. To enhance positive physical choices now and in the future all students actively take part in the Premier's Sporting Challenge, the Sporting Schools program, daily fitness activities, regular sporting days with other schools and our annual swimming program. Ulong students are also taught the importance of positive food choices by growing healthy fruits and vegetables in the school garden which are used by students in our Kids in the Kitchen program.  We are also part of the Live Life Well at School program that supports student's wellbeing and promotes healthy eating habits through Breakfast Clubs, Fruit Break and Crunch & Munch.
