Tucabia Public School
Tucabia Public School is a small, rural school drawing students from the village of Tucabia and its surrounds. The core values of our school can be seen in our vision statement: "Our students are living and learning to be valued citizens in a global community". Every school program relates back to this vision. Our future citizens will have a high level of educational competence and a strong sense of community, based on sound ethics. Values are formed within our welfare and discipline programs. Mutual respect has developed positive relationships between the students and staff. Our aim has always been for students to learn effectively and behave responsibly. Small group, literacy sessions assists every student to improve their skill levels in reading and writing. A whole school spelling program focuses on rules, grammar and punctuation. Through innovative learning and the use of Interactive Whiteboards, students are engaged in tasks that develop creative thinking skills. Through the school's Peer Mediation Program, senior students organise structured play activities and solve minor disputes during lunch break. Enhanced relationships from Kindergarten to Year 6 have had a positive impact in the playground, where co-operative play is regularly observed. Students from K-6 collaboratively designed a detailed plan for the entire playground using Hands on Learnscapes. The school's front entrance and numerous garden areas have been built with future environmental projects ready for implementation. This has empowered our students to develop practical leadership skills and gain a sense of ownership of their school. Our dedicated staff is committed to helping each child mature as a learner and expand their individual strengths. Students at Tucabia Public School have opportunities to be involved in public speaking, computer technologies, performing arts, drumming, music, Active Afternoon Sports, Premiers Spelling Bee and the management of the school vegetable garden. Students attend a wide variety of sporting events, inluding soccer, basketball, cricket, netball, touch football and golf. Within each classroom, the curriculum caters for gifted and talented students who are able to access external programs including the Clarence Science Initiative. Tucabia Public School has a dynamic school culture, driven by a supportive school community. This strong partnership has enabled open communication between home and the classroom.
