Trangie Central School
Trangie Central School is a small rural school located 72km west of the major NSW regional centre of Dubbo. The school is situated in an area that is dominated by cotton production and crop farming with some livestock production. The school receives equity funding for location, low-socio-economic and Aboriginality. It is well-resourced with a multi-purpose sports centre, modern science laboratory, trade training facilities for Metals and Engineering and Hospitality, extensive Agriculture facilities supporting the delivery of Agriculture 7-12 and VET Primary Industries, four Video-conference rooms and computer facilities that provide a high ratio of student/computer access. The school has a staff made up of a balance of youth and experience. As student numbers have and continue to increase so have staff numbers increased and hence the range of subjects offered become more comprehensive. The improved student numbers have also resulted in the growth of the school’s executive team to include a Deputy Principal and a third Head Teacher. Staff talent and dedication have been reflected in a wide and always growing range of diverse extra-curricular activities in the Creative and Performing Arts, Sport and Agriculture. This offers students many opportunities to excel and so develop self-esteem and increase wellbeing. The school has high expectations and a culture of acceptance, tolerance and kindness. The school’s Wellbeing Policy is underpinned by positive value expectations to be Safe, Respectful Learners. The policy includes programs to develop resilience in both Primary and Secondary, with the extra-curricular activities and Interest Groups being an integral part of this. The school has a fundamental belief in the importance of early intervention. The Early Birds Transition to School Program is a cornerstone of this policy, providing the opportunity for children in the year before they enrol in school to experience a morning of school each week with a qualified teacher. The children become familiar with expectations of school and gain skills which will support their learning once they enter Kindergarten. This strong start is then continued by Early Action for Success (EAfS) which ensures quality teaching in both Literacy and Numeracy in K-2, underpinned by on-going professional learning for staff with the support of an Instructional Leader. The school has high academic aspirations and expectations. The focus on Early Intervention and on Quality Teaching and Learning across the whole school is being rewarded with a steady trend upwards in NAPLAN results and in the HSC . The Western Access Program (WAP) offers the opportunity to study a wide range of Stage 6 subjects and the school is now successfully delivering, along with humanities subjects and Vocational Education, a full range of Mathematics, English and Science courses.Strong community connections are fostering respectful relationships between students, staff, families and community members. The P&C are active in supporting the school in improving facilities for our students, with extensive work in the Primary playground being a good example of their dedication to our school. Trangie Central School is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the Trangie community and has a long and proud history of being a true community resource.
