Thirlmere Public School

Thirlmere Public School has served the local area continuously since its establishment in 1888. Over its proud history, the school has established itself as an integral part of the Thirlmere community. Thirlmere Public School exists for the purpose of providing students with the skills and attitudes to enable them to function effectively as life-long learners in a dynamic and changing world. These ideals are fostered through a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, excellence in current administrative practices and through cooperative community relations in an environment which is safe, attractive, supportive and caring. There is a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy through the implementation of Language, Learning and Literacy (L3),Targeted Early Numeracy (TEN), Newmans Analysis, Writing in the Middle Years and Focus on Reading. The school has a self funded Instructional Leader who works alongside our teachers to ensure all K-2 children are tracked and monitored in literacy and numeracy to meet expected stage outcomes. Quality differentiated teaching occurs in all classrooms. The school's curriculum includes specialist programs in Reading Recovery, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Science. Technology features in all key learning areas via a mobile computer laboratory and an internet-linked network connecting all classrooms. Student welfare is underpinned by the promotion of positive social skills, as indicated by the school's motto 'Show Respect'. Students are well engaged through a range of extracurricular activities such as environmental education programs, dance, choir and equestrian clubs. The school is the hub of the local community and has a strong connection with Picton High School to ensure a smooth transition for all Stage 3 students.
