Strathfield North Public School is a large primary school with about 70% of students coming from a language background other than English. This multicultural school provides Community Language programs in Korean, Chinese and Italian. The school has a high profile in the local area with excellent community participation in school programs and activities. A very active Parents & Citizens body supports the school. Strathfield North PS is valued for its commitment to supporting all students and their families in the attainment of every child's potential. The school holds information sessions, conducts teacher-parent interviews and provides written students reports twice a year. Our partnership with the community helps us provide a caring, supportive learning environment in pleasant physical surroundings, where each student is encouraged to develop a positive self-image, accept responsibility for actions and to show respect, consideration and compassion for others. This allows for the emotional, physical and intellectual growth of all students. The school has a strong academic tradition that is complemented by programs in cultural and sporting areas. Catering for differences in achievement and ability, the balanced, comprehensive curriculum, emphasises academic excellence, whilst encouraging and providing opportunities to succeed in many different spheres. Strengths in PDHPE through sport and peer support, performing arts(dance, choir, orchestra, band),debating and public speaking and gifted and talented activities, underline our commitment to realising the potential of all students. Strathfield North PS operates a range of learning support programs coordinated by a strong learning support team catering for student welfare and individual learning needs. The school has the services of school counsellors. The School Code, incorporating behaviour and anti-bullying guidelines is consistently applied throughout the school. This is fully understood by all students and communicated clearly to all parents and community members. The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a strong student body at Strathfield North PS and works across all stages at the school. All these programs underline our commitment to realising the potential of all students. In partnership with the P & C and specialist community providers, the school offers extra curricula activities that include dance, drama, individual music tutoring, band and string tuition, basketball and chess. Our emphasis on PDHPE is underlined by our fundamental movement skills programs, which in sport has led to great success in year wide interschool sporting competitions. Through participation in debating and public speaking competitions, band, orchestra and choir, Tournament of Minds, Mind Marathon, The Premiers Spelling Bee and the operation of a technology focused publishing crew; we recognise the strengths of our gifted and talented students. Again in partnership with our community, technology is a significant component at Strathfield North PS with all classrooms being equipped with Interactive Whiteboards. Students are also supported by two computer labs, a connected classroom and several portable trolleys of laptops and iPod Touches. To further connect us to our community, children and staff contribute to our school website. Sitting at the heart of our Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources and their use in school programs is the belief that ICT enriches learning in an inclusive and meaningful way. The P&C and its subcommittees work tirelessly for all our students. Through its Road Safety, Music, Canteen, Uniform, ICT and Fundraising subcommittees the P&C enables school improvement to continue into the future. The school and P&C implement a school uniform policy. The school canteen is well supported and provides healthy foods before school and at recess and lunch. Before and after school care is offered off site by several providers. In terms 2 and 3 school tours are conducted for new families intending to enrol for the following year.
