Schofields Public School
Schofields Public School is a school with strong parent support and a rapidly increasing and diversifying student population. Our teachers encourage students to reach their full potential academically, socially, culturally and physically. We offer a broad range of subjects and opportunities to meet our students' interests and aspirations. In delivering the curriculum, we have a strong focus on English and Mathematics. The key learning areas of Human Society & Its Environment, Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health & Physical Education are often delivered through an integrated approach. Adoption of the Primary Connections program in Science and Technology has brought hands-on Science learning experiences to our classrooms. An active and focused Learning Support Team ensures that the individual learning needs of students are addressed and appropriate programs and resources are put in place. Interactive whiteboards across the school, internet access in classrooms and in our technology lab together with computers, laptops and iPads enhance student learning while preparing students for the future. School practices focus strongly on the environment, encouraging students to value sustainable habits. Our spacious playground is surrounded by gardens and established shade trees and provides an opportunity for children to play, make friends and have fun. Our wide-ranging arts program includes choir and dance groups that perform regularly at community events. We help students show respect, be co-operative, take responsibility for their learning and value doing their best. Our Leadership Programs ensure that students put skills into action in a range of real world situations. As part of our student well-being review and evaluation, we have decided to implement Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) to strengthen our discipline and behaviour systems. The members of our Parents' and Citizens' Association (P&C) support the school's vision and values, and provide community services by running our canteen and uniform shop. Through the efforts of our (P&C) all of the school's learning spaces are fully air-conditioned, providing an optimal learning environment for our students. We value open communication and parents and community members are welcomed in the school. Parents have instant access to the online newsletter, Skoolbag APP and school website. It is anticipated that during 2018 the entire school will be moved to temporary accommodation on the existing site for 18-24 months until a new permanent school is constructed for completion in 2020. The new school will feature shared open plan and flexible learning spaces for students and staff allowing for a wide variety of student groupings and learning approaches.
