At Rainbow Street Public School we transform the lives of young people and inspire and nurture their personal and academic growth through a culture of high expectations, collaboration and personal and professional growth. By working in close partnership with parents, we strive to develop learners who are persistent, motivated and confident, who work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative, are empathetic towards others, and are critical and creative thinkers equipped with the skills and capabilities to engage productively in a rapidly changing world. Rainbow Street Public School is situated in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney in close proximity to the University of NSW and Prince of Wales Hospital. The 476 students currently enrolled come from 51 different language backgrounds. 1.6% of students are Aboriginal. The school has 19 mainstream classes and a support unit with four classes of students with disabilities. The school community supports an inclusive and non-discriminatory culture. Our core values of Caring, Learning and Effort and our Learner Qualities (empathy, motivation, collaboration, critical and creative thinking, initiative, perseverance and confidence) these underpin all that we do. The physical learning environment underwent a major capital works program in recent years to serve the growing needs of the community, purpose built to provide future focused teaching and learning spaces. The new learning environment is designed to support modern and flexible learning models with collaborative learning spaces, spacious grounds and a blend of indoor and outdoor learning environments, providing students with a multitude of learning opportunities. Students engage in learning experiences across the six key learning areas and the authentic use of information and communication technologies is used to support teaching and learning programs. Cocurricular opportunities are provided in the areas of creative arts and sport to broaden each child's experiences. The school values the Live Life Well mantra and implements programs to support this across the school. Parents value the diverse culture of the school and are active and committed members of the school community working closely with staff for the maximum benefit of students. The school has developed a strong learning alliance, QT East, with two other local schools. Additionally, an emphasis on student engagement, collective teacher efficacy, explicit teaching, learning intentions and success criteria, challenge and the provision of effective feedback further support our vision.
