Rainbow Street Public School

Rainbow Street Public School's motto is 'Excellence in Education in a Caring Environment since 1923'. Our mission is to educate children to reach their maximum potential; intellectually, socially and physically, and to ensure that they become involved members of society. Our core values are Caring, Learning and Effort and these underpin all that we do.  The school has recently undergone a major redevelopment with 35 new teaching spaces, five refurbished teaching spaces, four special purpose spaces, refurbishment of the heritage main block to include new staff and administration areas and teaching spaces, a new library block, an upgrade of the hall, a new canteen and an expansive covered outdoor learning area. New classrooms are based on future-focused learning models with collaborative and flexible learning spaces. There is also a strong emphasis on creating outdoor learning environments to provide students with a diverse range of teaching spaces, making the new school a fun and exciting place to be. Accessibility played a strong role in the design process with two lifts and covered walkways providing improved access to the school. Students engage in learning experiences across the six Key Learning Areas. Information and Communication technologies are used to support teaching and learning programs. English as an Additional Language/Dialect teachers support our students who are still learning to read, write and speak English. There is also an extensive extra-curricular program. We provide environmental education programs which assist in developing civic responsibility and pride. Our creative arts programs enable students to participate in the school band, strings ensemble, recorder, choir and dance group, showcasing their talents in school and district performances. Each year students in our choir, recorder group and strings ensemble perform in Public Schools NSW concerts at the Sydney Opera House. Rainbow Street's chess, debating and public speaking teams perform very well in their respective competitions. Biennial Art Shows and Concerts showcase our students' talents in the arts. Our students participate in PSSA competitions with other local schools in team sports (AFL, softball, soccer and netball) and at annual Athletic, Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals. We also participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge, the Premier's Spelling Bee and the Premier's Sporting Challenge. We value the Live Life Well mantra and implement programs to support this across the school.  Rainbow Street PS supports equity in a caring, supportive and safe environment where parents value the multicultural environment and the individual attention students receive. We have four classes of students with disabilities who make up a support unit attached to our school. The school supports an inclusive and non-discriminatory culture.
