Penshurst Public School

Penshurst PS provides students with quality educational programs delivered by highly qualified, dedicated teachers within a caring and nurturing learning environment. With a strong academic focus, students enjoy opportunities that challenge and extend their learning across an extensive curriculum. Stimulating enrichment programs for gifted and talented students and excellent support programs for students with special needs are provided. Special programs such as Reading Recovery and the Community Maths Tutor Program give our students the opportunity to consolidate their literacy and numeracy skills at an early age. Our school offers a range of extracurricular activities such as sport, band, choir, dance, signing choir and chess. Our teachers show great commitment to our students and our school. Our school and our community hold high expectations of student learning and behaviour. Students from over 60 nations intermingle in an environment of tolerance and respect. Our welfare system is underpinned by a commitment to restorative practices and our values, which encourage all students to respect and understand others. Self discipline, leadership and social responsibility are actively encouraged and promoted through participation in strong K-6 programs and initiatives. There are three classes of hearing impaired students. These students are integrated for many subjects and help all students develop understanding and positive relationships with each other. Our school is well resourced. We provide students access to the latest technologies to enhance their learning. The wireless Technology Centre, video conferencing facilities, interactive whiteboards in all classrooms and the mobile lab ensure that all students are capable users of today's technology. Our partnership with our parents is highly regarded and we pride ourselves as a welcoming and friendly school with strong and valued community links. Parents are encouraged to join our Parent Network which meets regularly to discuss student learning. Parents assist teachers with individual student learning programs as well as help to keep the library functioning smoothly. Parents, teachers and students all join together to celebrate Harmony Day which is the focus of our year. Penshurst PS is a collaborative school community where everyone can contribute in some way. The Student Representative Council reflects the student voice. The Parents and Citizens Association and School Council give opportunities for parents and teachers to have a say in future directions of the school. Regular reflective practices ensure that our school continues to change to meet the needs of our students within today's society.
