Old Guildford Public School

Old Guildford Public School is located in South Western Sydney and provides 422 students from preschool to Year 6 with quality educational programs delivered by highly qualified and dedicated teachers. Funding from the Equity Schools Program supports a wonderful community from a range of cultural backgrounds. At Old Guildford our personalised approach to education ensure that each child has the opportunity to be a successful learner. Effective and extensive support programs are developed for children identified with special needs. These programs are monitored by an experienced Learning Support Team. Homework support classes, planned and taught by school staff are available after school each week. All school programs provided a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy and technology. Literacy and numeracy skills are developed across all Key Learning Areas and are launched through our highly regarded and successful Early Literacy Program which provides explicit and intensive instruction in very small groups. The successful integration of technology as a learning tool is supported by access in all classrooms for all students to computers, interactive whiteboards, laptops, Ipads and robotics. Classroom learning is further enriched through an extension program which is provided for identified students. At OGPS we offer an outstanding preschool which is designed to cater for children as they prepare for kindergarten in our school. Our preschool program offers an atmosphere of warmth and enthusiasm through flexible and innovative learning tasks which challenge and excite students about learning and support a successful transition into kindergarten. The preschool is staffed by a qualified Early-Childhood Teacher with the assistance of a specialised preschool School Learning Support Officer. All learning is designed to meet the demands of the Early Childhood Framework in a colourful, inviting and supportive environment. The school was awarded the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen/Garden Grant in 2011. Our students now cook the fresh produce they harvest from the school garden to prepare nutritious meals in our newly established student kitchen. At OGPS we also offer a whole school science program, a wide range of sporting opportunities which include afternoon sport 3 afternoons each week, student leadership, public speaking and debating, junior and senior choirs, dance groups, a drum group, Keyboard lessons, a photography club, after school art classes, a robotic group and a chess club. Our students 'grow' in a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment that develops respect, understanding and responsibility. The welfare of students and their families is paramount. Our effective welfare and discipline programs focus on social skills, decision making and citizenship. The core values of the school are Respect, Responsibility, Excellence, Persistence, Co-operaction and Honesty. Teachers and parents work together to ensure that these school values are intrinsic in all learning.
