Our school: Newtown North Public School is a small, forward thinking, innovative and dynamic inner city school with an active and diverse school community. The school was established in 1883, is situated close to the inner city and adjacent to Sydney University, the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Moore Theological College. It has a close connection with the local community and draws students from the local area. The school is an Associate School of Sydney University and has established links with the university and wider community to optimise opportunities for students. Newtown North Public School provides strong foundations in literacy and numeracy with a rich heritage of academic excellence. The school community supports a strong focus on visual and performing arts and a broad co-curricular program including the arts, values education, ethical inquiry, band, science, public speaking, debating, technology, sport, student leadership, external academic and arts competitions, dance, gymnastics and a differentiated curriculum for all students, including gifted and talented students. We are a friendly school community and have strong cooperative relationships with parents. We constantly look for opportunities to put our values into action and weave them into the school curriculum. Our motto, To grow to help reflects our statement of purpose, in partnership with students, staff, parents and the wider community. Parents, carers and friends provide practical daily assistance in classrooms, participate in community forums on important issues, encourage students to expand their learning opportunities and plan a range of social and fundraising events. The school uses the processes of restorative practice to maintain healthy relationships and a happy, safe and supportive culture. Newtown North Public School offers excellent teaching and learning programs supported by professional and caring teachers. Our enthusiastic community works together to create a vibrant and rich education for every child.
