Nana Glen Public School

Nana Glen Public School is located on the mid north coast of NSW 25 kilometres west of Coffs Harbour in the delightful Orara Valley. The school is set within an idyllic playground, which is one of the largest in the area along with full-size soccer field, basketball court, fixed playground equipment, a 25 metre swimming pool and a large covered play area. There are 6 classrooms and an extensive library and office area. The school has an experienced and dedicated staff consisting of the principal, 6 full time teachers, a part-time librarian and a music specialist. Ancillary staff consists of a full-time Administrative Manager, 2 days a week School Administrative Officer, 2 part time teachers' aides and a part time general assistant. By careful planning and effective management, we hope to achieve a school for our students and community that is friendly and caring with a positive school tone, has a high standard of learning in all subjects, offers students additional programs that cater for differing interests and abilities and provides a functional and attractive educational environment. Extracurricular activities include swimming lessons every Friday in Terms 1 & 4 for all classes where a structured swimming survival program for all students is followed. Debating, public speaking and participation in Tournament of the Minds helps to broaden our students' experiences. The use of technology has allowed our students to debate other schools through the connected classroom. Our classes participate in video conferencing with our senior class participating and presenting at a state wide video conference. An intra school chess tournament is played during term 3 and a selected team then competes at district level with the opportunity to compete at higher levels. Students will participate in Mathletics in 2011. Students will be able to access this site from home and school. A Gifted and Talented Program has been established amongst the schools of the Orara Valley. Planning of the program has taken place in 2010 with a commencement planned for 2011. Our school participates in the Youth Environmental Council where students from all schools in the Coffs Harbour area come together and plan and participate in environmental projects. Nana Glen Public School is a Waterwise school and has been awarded a Cancer Council Award for sun safety. Our students also have a strong commitment to our immediate environment with a regenerating project of our river-bank and the propagation of new seedlings in our greenhouse. This work has been undertaken with the guidance of Landcare and Rivercare.
