Murrumburrah Public School

Murrumburrah Public School, a member of the Murrimboola Learning Community, is located in the SW Slopes of NSW, 1.5 hours from both Wagga Wagga and the A.C.T. It is in a highly productive agricultural area with broadacre cropping, livestock production and intensive horticultural crops. The school has excellently maintained facilities set in an expansive park like playground. The school has approximately 150 students. Its core values are reflected in a Code of Cooperation developed by students, staff and parents. The Code of Cooperation is based on respect for people and their rights, treating people fairly, using language appropriately and accepting responsibility for actions. Murrumburrah Public School has programs supporting students striving towards achieving academic and social goals. The Accelerated Literacy program is being implemented as part of our Literacy Program with teachers attending intensive training programs. Numeracy is a whole school focus with a Scope and Continuum in place. Higher Order Thinking Skills using Art Costa's Habits of Mind, the 6 Thinking Hats, Langford Organisational Tools and Ian Harris Model Mapping are implemented in all stages. The Peer Support Program with Year 6 students as leaders, Buddy Programs between classes and a social skills component in our PDHPE program promote a caring, supportive and friendly ethos amongst students. Academic, sporting, cultural and social skills programs support all students by providing access to skills, strategies and opportunities. This encourages students to be involved in programs and extend themselves with extra-curricular activities. The school is recognised for its inclusive programs catering for Gifted and Talented students and students with learning needs. The school's comprehensive sporting and public speaking programs have enabled students to compete and achieve to regional and state level. Murrumburrah Public School has developed a successful Dance program with students performing at Dance Festivals and in the NSW Schools Spectacular. Murrumburrah Public School promotes the acceptance and understanding of cultural beliefs through a comprehensive curriculum and special celebrations. Our school community acknowledges and embraces the Aboriginal culture and heritage of the Wiradjuri people. The school is resourced with Interactive Whiteboards and 6 up-to date desktop computers in every classroom, a bank of laptops and a Connected Classroom which has an Interactive Whiteboard and video-conferencing capability. Murrumburrah Public School has an active School Council and P&C Association. The School Council members have designated responsibilities to assist in advising and working with the school in the management of a range of areas. Murrumburrah Public School P&C Association has run very successful fundraising events, both financially and socially, which have received excellent support from both the school and district communities.
