Merimbula Public School is located on the Far South Coast of NSW within a small rural community which is the centre for tourism on the Sapphire Coast. The school continues to be committed to excellence, opportunity and success for all. It is a friendly, welcoming school with excellent modern facilities including a purpose built technology centre. It has a supportive staff, P&C and strong links to the community. Welfare, academic, technology, sport and performing arts programs are of an excellent standard. Enrolments at Merimbula Public School include mainstream students, gifted and talented students, students with learning disabilities as well as a small percentage of Indigenous students. A small percentage of students from other cultural backgrounds are enrolled at the school. Some of whom come from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school has an active Student Representative Council and students are offered a range of leadership, gifted and talented education and extension opportunities. Merimbula Public School is an innovative and inclusive school that has been recognised for its outstanding learning support and mentoring programs. All staff at the school are trained in implementing the Accelerated Literacy pedagogy and the school's large team of Learning Support Officers are trained in implementing the Multi Lit reading improvement program. The School Learning Support Teacher works with students across the school to improve literacy and numeracy skills, knowledge and understanding. She also oversees the implementation of the Fast For Word reading program. Merimbula Public School has an experienced and dedicated staff who provide quality learning opportunities for students in a stimulating, challenging and caring learning environment. Every student in the school has a Personal Learning Plan and is offered a range of opportunities to improve their learning and ability in all subject areas. The school offers exceptional performing arts and sporting programs and students excel in these areas. Technology remains a continued focus across the school with explicitly taught technology programs integrated into the classroom, especially in mathematics, literacy, science and when using Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs), MOODLES and the Connected Classroom video conferencing facility. The school is part of the Country Areas Program and has a very supportive school community. The school's linkages with other local public primary, high schools and the Bournda Environmental Education Centre are strong and the school is an educational partner with the University Of Wollongong through its proud membership within the Sapphire Coast Learning Community (SCLC) and the Eden Marine High School's Centre For Excellence.
