Merewether Public School
Merewether Public School serves a diverse community of wide ranging socio-economic circumstances. It brings together students from a variety of family backgrounds and dynamics. Merewether Public has been recognised at Federal Government level for its consistency over many years in supporting its students achieve successful academic outcomes. In 2009, as part of the National Partnerships agreement Merewether Public was chosen as a Centre for Excellence and as such is used as a model for teaching quality. Further, at State level Merewether was selected as a Lighthouse School for the Best Start program because of its excellence in Early Childhood education. The school is also a partner with the University of Newcastle in teacher training which includes a comprehensive Internship program. The school's responsibility in both these programs is to take a leadership role and support colleagues in a number of schools in developing high quality teaching and learning systems. The school accepts these responsibilities enthusiastically. Parent participation in programs across the Merewether Public is robust and surveys as well as anecdotal evidence show that parent satisfaction with overall school performance is very high.
