Lidcombe Public School

Located in the south-western suburbs of Sydney, Lidcombe Public School is an innovative and dynamic primary school with a strong commitment to quality learning and inclusive teaching programs. The school serves a diverse multilingual community with the vast majority of its K to 6 students having a language background other than English. The school hosts special education facilities for students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities. Lidcombe Public School has an outstanding reputation in the community. This has been brought about by a combination of excellent educational programs, dedicated staff, enthusiastic students and a supportive and committed parent body. Lidcombe PS enjoys an expansive school setting. The school is housed in pleasant brick buildings with all classrooms having air conditioners and smartboards. There is a new multi-purpose hall, a canteen and a well-equipped library with a networked computer laboratory linked to a server, allowing students access to a myriad of educational programs. We at Lidcombe PS place a very strong emphasis on the importance of positive relationships between our teachers, students and community members, which in turn, facilitates each child's development as a capable learner. We seek to take the contextual aspects of the community into account while focusing on the needs of the individual child. Of great importance to our school is our strong focus on literacy and numeracy programs that cater for the students' individual needs. Guided Reading groups, writing groups and the advent of strong programs like L3 (Language, Learning and Literacy), L3 Stage 1, TEN (Targeted Early Numeracy), Discovery Learning and the Count Me In 2 Maths program are at the forefront of many innovative programs implemented. The school has a strong emphasis on extra-curricular activities, especially in the performing arts and sport. Excellent opportunities exist for students in performing arts programs through the school choirs, dance groups and public speaking. Our sporting programs are fabulous, with an emphasis on healthy lifestyles taught to our classes, and our results on the sporting field magnificent. In 2014, our Senior Girls League Tag, Junior Girls League Tag, Junior Boys League Tag, Junior Football, Senior AFL, Junior AFL and Junior Netabll teams were all crowned 'Premiers'. We are also the current school champions of the Auburn Zone Swimming, Auburn Zone Cross Country and Auburn Zone Athletics carnivals - a unique treble ! We are also very proud of the way our whole school community has been involved in the creation outdoor learning environments for our students, the latest being a two mini football fields for Stage 1 and the creation of a mini football competition which has all of year 1 and 2 students very excited. The school has a very proud and supportive community and is well supported by a very industrious Parents and Citizens' Association, who work together with the staff to ensure a safe and happy learning environment for all students. The school provides a caring environment, which is reflected in a school ethos that emphasises a strong set of values that are integrated into all aspects of our school and wider community. Positive Wellbeing Programs are also a feature of the school, with an emphasis on PBIS (Positive Behaviour Intervention Supports) and restorative practices in an environment in which students, staff and community work together to promote strong, healthy relationships that are based on mutual respect. State winner of the National Literacy Award 2000, winner of Auburn Community Access Award 2009 and currently a demonstration school for Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support (PBIS), Lidcombe Public School pursues relentless school improvement for the betterment of all its students through the creation of a safe, respectful learning environment. The school is characterised by strong professional teamwork and effective positive relationships between students, staff and the community. The school has a strong focus on the continual improvement of student learning outcomes in both literacy and numeracy whilst maintaining a balanced curriculum in all key learning areas.
