Kanwal Public School

Kanwal Public School is a comprehensive K-6 primary school situated north of Wyong on the Central Coast of NSW. From its humble beginnings as a one teacher school serving a small, rural community in 1911, the school grew to be the largest primary school in NSW with over one thousand students in 1979. Another period of population growth in the late 1990s boosted the school's enrolment to over 900 students in 2002. In 2017 our school population is 666 students which includes 71 students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. Students are accommodated in 27 classes and are supported by a Principal, two Deputy Principals, four Assistant Principals and a further 50 teaching, support and office staff. The school receives additional socio economic and Aboriginal funding and implements a number of focus programs including Early Action for Success, Focus on Reading (FOR), Language, Learning and Literacy (L3), Teaching Early Numeracy (TEN), Reading Recovery and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). Our students are involved in a broad range of extra-curricular activities including Brospeak, Sistaspeak, band, guitar, ukulele, strings, environmental education, choir, dance, creative and performing arts, debating, public speaking, chess, team and individual sports and student leadership. We share a strong, consultative partnership with our Aboriginal community and the Ngara AECG and enjoy a close relationship with our community and P&C, who work tirelessly to raise money for our students. The school is a proud member of the Wadalba Schools Learning Community, a group of outstanding schools focussed on providing a rich and varied K - 12 educational experience. The schools work together to deliver a supportive transition program that ensures our students are settled, confident and ready to learn when they move to high school. Kanwal Public School has established a proud reputation for excellence in academic, sporting, cultural, and civics and citizenship pursuits.
