Hurstville Public School: 'Where Success Matters'. Hurstville Public School has provided quality education to students since 1876. The school is situated in the southern suburbs of Sydney within walking distance of the main shopping centre and caters for students who live in the local area. The school has four Opportunity Classes for gifted and talented students and four Special Education classes for students with special needs. The school has an enrolment in excess of one thousand students, with ninety five per cent from language backgrounds other than English. The main cultural group represented in the school is Chinese. Our experienced teachers focus on quality learning experiences to cater for the diverse needs of our students. The mission of Hurstville Public School is to provide quality education within a happy, secure and flexible environment in which individuals are encouraged to 'strive for success'. We provide many opportunities for additional educational experiences to cater for all aspects of child development. Extra-curricular activities include band, dance, choir, chess, debating, public speaking, environment club and representative sport. We have strong partnerships with parent groups and welcome their involvement in school events and decision-making processes. Student leadership is a priority at the school, along with a pro-active approach to student well-being and 'positive behaviour for learning'.
