Telarah Public School

Telarah Public School is a preschool to year 6 school, located 5 minutes north of Maitland in the Hunter Valley. The school's goal is to provide all children with a love of learning, a pride in their achievement and a respect for themselves and others. There are approximately 520 students Kindergarten to Year 6 with the Preschool having an enrolment of 80 students who attend 5 days each fortnight. The school also has an Early Intervention Unit which caters for children with learning difficulties prior to the start of Kindergarten and a support class for students with Emotional Disturbances. These services are accessed by schools within the Maitland area to support students. Telarah Public School attracts equity funding with a focus on the development of literacy and numeracy K to 6. With interactive whiteboards in every classroom to enhance student learning, teachers have embraced the opportunities that this technology has offered to provide high levels of engagement and a wider range of quality classroom practices. There is a high level of parent and community engagement to support the performing arts and other curricular areas. In 2011 the school began implementing Positive Behaviour for Learning. Through this intitiative the school aims to teach students to Be Safe, Be Positive and for every member of the school community to Be a Learner. Our aim is to work collaboratively with parents and caregivers recognising that parents are every child's first educators.
