Hillside Public School is a small, dynamic school located within a 1.4 hectare peaceful bushland setting surrounded by native Australian flora with distant views of the Blue Mountains. Hillside PS caters for individual academic and social needs and provides a nurturing setting which allows all students to learn and grow to their potential. The experienced and dedicated staff provide diverse opportunities for students to fulfil the school's motto of 'Duty, Knowledge, Loyalty'. A tradition of academic, cultural and sporting success combines with a high level of personalised care and fulfilment of individual potential. Hillside PS provides outstanding leadership opportunities for students; children know one another and display genuine care and concern for one another's welfare. Whole school Buddy Program provides opportunities for younger students to work with older students and develop a sense of camaraderie. There are opportunities to participate in numerous extra-curricular activities including: performing arts, with a school band, recorder groups and a biennial school concert involving all students; participation in the University of New South Wales academic competitions; participation in a number of environmental programs and school gardening groups; a comprehensive fitness program that systematically develops fundamental movement skills; school special swimming scheme; numerous sporting opportunities including K-6 swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals, as well as numerous opportunities to participate in inter-school and representative competitions; and a school-wide French language program. The school takes pride in all levels of student accomplishment and encourages all to achieve to the best of their ability. A comprehensive positive reward program (PBEL - Respectful Responsible Learners) provides recognition and celebration of student achievement and behaviour. The school is well resourced, with a floodlit multi-purpose tennis court, a beach volleyball court, fixed equipment, sandpit, a covered outdoor learning area, an exceptionally well-resourced library, a large oval and extensive sporting equipment. Each classroom contains interactive whiteboard technology and an excellent student to computer ratio. A family atmosphere underpins extremely supportive community involvement in numerous facets of school life.
