Hanwood Public School

At Hanwood Public School, our aim is to develop deep knowledge, understanding and ownership in learning. We strive to enhance engagement to develop the skills of our students to thrive into the future. Hanwood Public School is located in the village of Hanwood, five kilometres from Griffith. The school is the focal point of the community, and caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Hanwood Public School has twenty-seven staff comprising of seventeen teachers (full time and part time), six School Learning and Support Officers (SLSOs full time and part time), and four SASS staff including a School Administration Manager (SAM), two School Administration Officers (SAOs) and one General Assistant (GA). The school has a current enrolment of 170 students. Hanwood Public School has a proactive and dedicated parent body in its P&C Committee, and has developed strong relationships within the Hanwood and wider Griffith community. The school has a strong sporting history, provides learning opportunities in the performing arts and has a growing reputation for its success in debating. There is a focus on quality teaching and learning in all classrooms. Hanwood Public School promotes student resilience, respect and the desire for all students to grow academically, socially and emotionally. The Resilience Project is implemented as a whole-school wellbeing initiative, teaching the values of gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy.

New public preschool: New public preschool at Hanwood Public School

As part of the NSW Government’s plan to rebuild public education, the 2024-25 Budget is delivering a historic $1.4 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education. As part of the plan to rebuild essential services, the NSW Government has invested $769 million to deliver 100 new public preschools, including building a new preschool at every new government primary school in NSW, to boost access to preschool across the state. Early planning is underway to consider the needs of the local area now and into the future to ensure the right preschool is designed for the community. Design professionals are in the process of being engaged, site due diligence activities will be underway in the coming months. We will share information throughout this project and update this dedicated project page to keep everyone informed about the progress we are making. Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
