Gundagai South Public School

Gundagai South Public School is located in the Riverina Region of NSW in the township of Gundagai. The school overlooks the town and is proud of its large, expansive playground, well-resourced classrooms with up-to-date technology and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Gundagai South Public School provides stimulating and challenging learning programs delivered in a safe and caring environment catering for the educational needs of all students. Currently there are eighty five students enrolled at the school. The school has as its main focus, the development and teaching of quality literacy and numeracy programs and the enhancement of learning for all students through the quality teaching framework. The school is supported by an additional teacher for three days a week, specifically catering for the needs of those students who require additional learning support, whilst four School Learning Support Officers work in the classrooms to assist teachers and students. A specialist technology teacher is employed for one day per week. The school teaches the Jolly Phonics program and Accelerated Literacy. Specialist coaching is given in tennis, swimming, dance and gym lessons each year and instrumental music lessons are available each week. The school conducts an extensive excursion program each year and is also involved with other local schools in overnight camps and interschool visits. The school has high expectations of the students and they are encouraged and supported to "Do Their Best" and accept opportunities offered to them both in their learning and through their participation in extra-curricular activities. In consultation with the staff, students, parents and community, the school has chosen Respect, Responsibility and Care as its three core values which are currently being implemented within the Positive Behaviour for Learning strategy for student welfare. Students are also encouraged to develop self-confidence, independence, initiative, resilience and leadership skills through their participation in our school activities. The staff at the school are motivated and are continually seeking to improve their teaching practice through participation in a variety of training and development activities. The school has a long and proud tradition and is well supported by the community.
