Glossodia Public School
Glossodia Public School is situated in semi rural surroundings in the Hawkesbury area to the north-west of Sydney. Since moving to the present site in 1990 the school has aimed to develop an overall environment which is attractive, safe and happy and which instils educational confidence. Glossodia Public School is a dynamic, friendly and supportive school where students are constantly engaged in those activities which foster educationally sound and academically appropriate learning experiences. Students are developing important decision making, critical thinking, technological and communication skills necessary to meet the challenges of an ever changing world. Glossodia Public School has a proud tradition of successfully catering to the academic, cultural, sporting and welfare needs of its students since its establishment in 1898. Glossodia Public School boasts skilled, experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic and caring staff, excellent academic programs, modern airconditioned classrooms, interactive whiteboards in all classes, a connected classroom for video conferencing and virtual excursions, networked computers in every classroom, a computer laboratory for whole-class use, an exceptionally well-resourced library, before and after school care, an asbestos free site and ten acres of tree studded playgrounds complemented by ample paved areas, shade shelters, courts and an environmental area. In 2010 two million dollars was spent on extending and refurbishing the hall, erecting a large covered outdoor learning area (COLA) over our basketball court, the erection of an outdoor classroom in our environmental education area and newly installed solar panels. Glossodia Public School offers an outstanding performing arts program including choir, girls and boys dance groups, public speaking and opportunities for guitar and keyboard tuition. Our school participates in the Hawkesbury PSSA sporting competitions and offers many interesting, innovative, enjoyable skills and fitness based sporting activities for our students. Students can sit for the University of NSW International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) tests. Our school is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, with a positive environment where children are safe, responsible and respectful learners. We are a proud and active member of the Hawkesbury Learning Community. Our school has 215 students, an ideal size which allows the friendly atmosphere of a small school yet the opportunities of a large school. Reading Recovery and additional support programs assist children experiencing difficulties while gifted and talented programs are also available. Our school enjoys outstanding community support and has a hard working Parents and Citizens Association which continually works to make available additional resources and experiences to enhance our students' learning.
