Glenfield Public School
Glenfield Public School, established in 1882, serves a growing community of an increasingly diverse nature with students from many different cultural, social and economic backgrounds. The school is held in high regard within the community. Since 2010, enrolments have increased from 268 to 409 students. The school holds high values and expectations of both teachers and students. An effective student welfare policy and procedures ensure the school is a safe and happy environment where students present as confident, cooperative and respectful learners. Our vision is to inspire and empower resilient, self-motivated students who are creative, critical thinkers, contributing and engaging with an ever-changing global community. The school has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy and teacher professional learning. Innovative programs and future focused approaches to quality teaching and learning are supported by modern technology. Teachers are dedicated and highly skilled in creating dynamic, engaging learning environments and developing teaching programs that will develop each child, academically and socially. The school has additional teaching staff who work in collaboration with class teachers to support students from backgrounds other than English. Other teachers support students with learning difficulties. In 2016, Stage 3 students won two highly prestigious academic competitions. In 2017, an enrichment class was established to extend our more able students. Glenfield Public School is committed to developing the whole child. Many cultural and sporting activities and programs are offered across the year. There is also a strong student leadership team who undertake responsibilites and contribute to school plans. Positive student wellbeing is paramount at Glenfield. The staff and in particular, the school's learning support team, work together alongside school counsellor to ensure the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of all students are effectively met. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the education of their children and to contribute to school plans. A highly committed and engaged parent body supports the school and contributes to our positive school culture. An active P&C meets twice a term. The school also operates a fortnightly parent cafe where important information is shared at an informal level for interested parents. In 2017, the school plans to further enhance school community relations by introducing a preschool playgroup. An Out of School Hours program operates daily within the school hall. This supports working parents by providing before and after school care. The school canteen operates daily and offers nutritional food items for lunches, drinks and snacks. The school motto "Strive to Achieve" reflects the fundamental ethos of Glenfield Public School as parents, community members, teachers and students work together to create a school climate in which everyone will thrive.
