The Fairfield West Public School community is committed to building and leading a highly engaging, successful and innovative learning environment. In 2015 the student population is over 700 with a culture that is enriched by 83% of students with English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The school learning community has a strong focus on academic achievement and prides itself on a positive and exciting learning environment which promotes creativity and equity - to support this all classrooms are equipped with interactive white boards, iPads and air conditioners. Other facilities include: a modern hall with sophisticated sound and lighting; a fully equipped Library Research Centre; two information communication labs; a music room with a specialist music teacher; a well organised canteen; a basketball court; three covered learning areas and extensive grassed areas for students to enjoy. Fairfield West Public School's purpose is to provide a 21st century learning environment through facilitating rich and engaging learning experiences and differentiated programs relevant to each individual student. Special emphasis is placed on literacy, numeracy, information communication technology and Self Organised Learning Environments (SOLE). Students are supported in their learning through; Reading Recovery; Support and Learning Assistance; English as a Second Language; Intensive English programs and Gifted and Talented programs. Fairfield West Public School also has a Support Unit which caters for students with special needs in an integrated and nurturing environment. The school offers an extensive sports program which includes the development of fundamental movement skills and weekly participation in the Primary Schools Sports Association program in: cricket; soccer; netball; softball; T-ball; rugby league; touch football; Aussie Rules; newcombe ball and basketball. The students also have the opportunity to be professionally coached in dance, swimming and tennis. Fairfield West Public School encourages strong links with local high schools and a partnership where students, teachers and parents work together ensuring that every child at Fairfield West Public School is given the opportunity to excel at all levels, develop values for life and a passion for learning.

New public preschool: Fairfield West Public Preschool

As part of the plan to rebuild public education, the NSW Government is investing $769 million to deliver 100 new public preschools, including building public preschools at new government primary schools in NSW, to boost access to public preschool across the state. The 100 new public preschools will be co-located on public school sites, including new and redeveloped school sites, helping more children access a preschool program before starting school. Work is underway for a new public preschool at Fairfield West Public School. The construction of the preschool is expected to be completed in time for Day 1 Term 1 2027.

LED Upgrade

The $157.8 million LED Lighting Upgrade Program will install new LED lights in up to 1,000 public schools across NSW. This means reduced operating costs for schools and improved learning environments and outcomes for our students.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Schools Renewal

The $240 million Schools Renewal Program aims to accelerate projects that will improve the amenity of schools and kick start local jobs for local communities. This is a co-funded program, with each school contributing up to 50 per cent of the project cost.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
