Fairfield Public School

Fairfield Public School is located in the central business district of Fairfield. The school is 128 years old and serves a culturally diverse, low socio-economic status community. The current student enrolment of the school is 590. 95% of the enrolment are from language backgrounds other than English with 41% of the enrolment being newly arrived to Australia. In many cases Fairfield Public School is the first and only schooling experienced, no matter what their age of entry. The school receives equity money under the Gonski (NERA) funding and focuses on quality teaching and learning through the development of literacy, language and numeracy skills. Two Instructional leaders are employed through Early Action for Success as part of the NSW State Literacy and Numeracy Strategy. Technology use is based on technology being a tool for learning. Unique staffing has been purchased by the school to support learning including a Wellbeing teacher, Assistant Principal Wellbeing and Assistant Principal EAL/D & Refugee. Three additional teachers were also purchased to keep class sizes low to strongly implement the STARS model. This model allows teachers to develop learning environments that focus on building Safety, Trust, Attachment, Responsibility and Skills Schools as a Community Centre operates as an integral part of the school program for children aged 0-8. The school partners with a range of external agencies including St Vincent DePaul SPARK program, Save the Children Fund Playgroup, and Sydney (COMPASS program) and Western Sydney Universities (practicum programs) The school is committed to strong professional learning programs that are proven to have an impact on teaching and learning.  Currently the school is implementing Positive Behaviour for Learning and is involved in several communities of schools projects covering topics around leadership, learning (through Instructional Rounds) and the performing arts. Students are enthusiastic learners in a safe and stimulating learning environment and have a wide range of opportunities to participate in academic, social, sporting and performing arts activities. Parents and community members are actively engaged in the school and supported by the enthusiatic staff. The school is committed to life long learning and the school motto 'Learning together'.
