Dubbo North Public School
Dubbo North Public School (DNPS) is a small, caring school of about 260 students. The school is set in well-maintained grounds with the gardens and surrounds managed in an eco-friendly way. The school aims to develop students' values and skills for responsible citizenship and lifelong learning. Programs are carried out within a caring educational environment by a staff of dedicated teachers that have child-centred aims. The welfare of all stakeholders - students, staff and parents - is always considered, with the aim of 'a fair go for all'. Individual and grade programs are run to maximise learning outcomes. Support programs are provided to cater for individual learning needs. These programs address the individual needs of students both in and out of the classroom. DNPS understands that participation in a variety of programs allows for both the physical and social development of students. Our sporting program is quite diverse and allows for both individual and team sport development. DNPS is involved in a number of knockout competitions and also participates in the regular PSSA sporting fixtures held throughout the school year. Fitness is included in the daily routine of each classroom. This occurs alongside our involvement in the 'Crunch and Sip' healthy eating program. DNPS has also participated in the Premier's Sporting Challenge since its inception with regular Gold and Silver whole school and individual class awards being gained. There is a strong Creative and Performing Arts program that culminates in a biennial concert in which every child from Kindergarten to Year 6 is encouraged to perform. Students are also given the opportunity to perform at regular Grade and Whole School Assemblies and in the local Dubbo Eisteddfod. DNPS highly values the work of the elected student leaders. They lead the school in the weekly K-6 School Assembly while also organising regular school dances and supporting fundraising for charities. DNPS enjoys a rich culture, with enrolments from many diverse backgrounds. Almost half of our students share their Aboriginal culture with us, enjoying many activities such as NAIDOC. The DNPS Wagambirra Dancers are renowned throughout the Western Region, performing regularly at official functions. DNPS has outstanding resources, including interactive whiteboards, a computer laboratory and two portable laptop laboratories. In 2010 our new hall was opened and it has already become an integral part of the day-to-day functioning of our school. Parents are a great support and are very active in the school, working on school committees, within the classrooms, in the canteen and fundraising through the P&C. DNPS shines every week when the staff and students stand and together proudly sing the School Song: 'Set in a land of golden sunshine/ By the Macquarie's side/ There's a school we call the best of all - North Dubbo, our hope and pride/ Always aspiring, never tiring -/ "Skill with Honour" is our aim'.
