A range of Gifted and Talented programs are also run throughout the year. We have a special emphasis on the use of technology to enhance learning. Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard and a number of computers and iPads for student use. A wide range of cultural and sporting opportunities are provided at the school. We have a school choir, a dance group and a ukulele group. We participate in Star Struck, the local public speaking and debating competitions and a range of sporting gala days throughout the year. We also offer Gymnastics and Swim School each year and this year are offering an orienteering program as an option for sport in Term 1. Charlestown Public School is also a "Kidsmatter" school. As such we place a strong emphasis on programs that promote positive mental health and increase students skills in the area of social and emotional development. Our students are happy at school and know that with effort, persistence and resilience they can all achieve to a high individual level. A positive relationship exists between the school, parents and the broader community, which enhances the educational opportunities for all students. Parents are celebrated as partners in their child's learning journey and many opportunities are provided for parents to be involved in school life. Staff, students, parents and other visitors often comment on the 'lovely feel' of our school. Our playground features cricket nets, a basketball court, hand ball courts, a sandpit, play equipment, a range of covered and shaded areas, a sensory garden, a number of beautiful murals and a range of playground markings for playing games. The school is centrally located in Charlestown within walking distance of the Charlestown Swimming Centre and other sporting facilities. Our location also allows us to walk to Charlestown Square for performance opportunities. Charlestown Public School is a part of the Whitebridge Cluster of Schools, which has exemplary across-cluster programs for talented and gifted students as well as outstanding programs for students in leadership, literacy, numeracy and technology. We participate in many combined events with our other cluster schools throughout the year which provides our students with opportunities to develop friendships with students from other local schools in preparation for high school.
