Cessnock Public School

Cessnock Public School was established in 1859 and is now very much a part of the heritage of Cessnock. With a student enrolment of 360 for 2009, Cessnock Public School caters for children K to 6 in 13 classes. Approximately 15% of our students are Aboriginal. The school also has a Support Unit made up of three support classes. The school is a part of the Priority Schools Program. Cessnock Public School has an experienced staff committed to quality teaching and learning. The school's current priorities are Literacy, Numeracy, Student Engagement and the establishment of effective partnerships between school and families. There is a strong technology focus to enhance the learning opportunities for all students, as well as effective social skills programs occurring across all stages, including the implementation of the Positive Behaviour for Learning strategy and Peer Support. We promote a safe and happy K to 6 playground with structured activities and quiet areas to cater for all students. The school is a proud member of the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools.
