Brooklyn Public School

Brooklyn Public School is a small school of 108 students situated on the upper Hawkesbury River operating with five classrooms and a well-resourced school library and technology centre. The school motto is "Deeds not Words" and the school's mission statement is "To Grow". At Brooklyn Public School we believe in building a safe, inclusive, secure learning environment in which children can develop a sense of belonging and well-being. The school has many unique whole school programs including an enriched environmental education curriculum which sees the students growing their own vegetables for the community; a wonderful Water Awareness Swimming program on Milson Island and a dynamic school band and choir, of whom take great pride when performing in the broader community. We encourage children to take risks in preparation for life-long learning and to understand and respect the past and present, whilst learning skills to contribute to the 21st century and beyond. Students are the central focus of our attention and our dedicated staff caters for their educational, physical, social, emotional and cultural needs. We encourage students to develop independence, a love of learning and a desire to be active and caring members of the school community and the community at large. We have a very supportive parent community and encourage participation by community members in all decision-making processes in the school. We find that by encouraging parent participation in school activities, parents become partners with teachers in their children's education. The Hawkesbury River Child Care Centre has been located on the school grounds for 21 years and now offers a vibrant before and after school care program in addition to vacation care. For more than 130 years the school has been proud to be an integral part of the local riverside community.
