Broke Public School

Broke Public School is a small school with immense pride in the quality of educational opportunities offered to students. With smaller class sizes and fewer students in the playground, the school provides a friendly, safe, nurturing environment. Three classes cater for an enrolment of 60 students, where quality teaching and learning programs are supported by the latest in information technology. Every classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, and video-conferencing facilities in the Connected Classroom provide students with secure access to learning opportunities from around the globe. A priority is given to literacy and numeracy, with a range of programs designed to enhance students' skills. The recent employment of a school speech pathologist has enhanced the school's Learning Support Program, enabling teaching staff to more effectively cater for the individual needs of every child. A range of extra-curricular activities enrich the school curriculum, with students achieving success in representative sporting teams and creative and performing arts. The school debating team has consistently achieved excellent results in the Premier's Debating Challenge. The school sets high expectations for behaviour with an emphasis given to social skills programs and values education. The Student Council takes a leadership role within the school, encouraging the older children to look out for their younger peers. Children of different ages mix happily together in playground games, as they enjoy the relaxed, rural setting of the school. With magnificent views across the Hunter Valley, and adjacent to farming lands and vineyards, the school enjoys a strong connection with the natural environment. The school benefits tremendously from active community support, with an enthusiastic P&C, a strong School Council and other dedicated community members, each contributing powerfully to the programs of the school. A new Community Playgroup meets within the school grounds. Our School Vision Statement for 2011: To promote an inspiring learning environment where students, staff and the community feel valued, connected and supported as learners. Our desire is to embrace a culture of pride, compassion and respect where the achievement of every individual is celebrated.
