Blakehurst Public School

Blakehurst Public School is located in a quiet bushland setting above Carss Park and Kogarah Bay. The school playground and the surrounding bushland offer students a learning environment that promotes an empathy with the local area's natural heritage, while the modern classrooms provide the latest in connected learning, with every classroom having interactive white-boards, a bank of computers and access to a suite of iPads and laptops. All classrooms are air-conditioned providing a generous learning space, a wet area, a computer area and a quiet withdrawal work space. The natural bushland outlook encourages a calm learning atmosphere that is evident throughout the school. The school library is very well-resourced and allows for a good balance of traditional reading resources and online access via computers and an interactive whiteboard. At Blakehurst Public School we actively promote core values. As a school community, we believe that the development of the whole child is a priority, reflected in our mission statement 'Blakehurst Public School aims to provide a caring environment where an individual can attain their own level of excellence'. The school is committed to offering a broad-ranging curriculum with a strong emphasis on the basics. Literacy and numeracy are priority areas across the school. Achieving one's best is encouraged in all facets of education and personal endeavour, with particular encouragement being given to the child's physical development and to active participation in our diverse performing arts programs. The school has both boys and girls dance groups as well as junior and senior choirs who are actively involved in school, community and regional events. The school is actively involved in the primary school sporting association (PSSA). The school prides itself on being a community school which recognises diversity of 29 different cultural and language backgrounds. This provides an excellent opportunity for our 270 students to learn about our multicultural Australia in a respectful manner. The school community is strongly supportive of Blakehurst Public School.  The active P&C is well-regarded by our community for the initiatives they support to further improve the learning environment of the school.
