Birchgrove Public School
Birchgrove Public School is an inner city school established in 1885.The local area is rich in the history of early European settlement in Australia and is respectful of the local Aboriginal culture and traditions. Historically it was a high density housing area for workers from the mines, docks and heavy industry located nearby. In more recent times, demographic changes have occurred and as a result of employment shifts, acceleration of real estate values and the creation of a fluid rental market the character of the area has changed. With expansive harbour views, the school was extensively refurbished in 2010, maintaining its distinctive Victorian facade while incorporating all the facilities required of the modern classroom. The school has a two unit pre-school which is part of the whole school organisation. The school community is actively involved in all aspects of the school and works tirelessly to support educational programs. There is a high level of student achievement in all key learning areas and an extensive parent organised music program. All children from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in our Italian Language Program.Birchgrove is a Restorative Justice School and the ethos that underpins the school is restoring relationships and taking responsibility. To help the students with this we have a Student Parliament and SRC. Our stong student welfare policy is supported by the bounce back Program and Peer Support Programs. Our school motto "To Strive", sums up our ethos, as Birchgrove students always strive to achieve their personal best.
