Barooga Public School

Located in southern NSW, on the banks of the Murray River, Barooga Public School caters for a diverse community and follows the Victorian school calendar. Barooga Public School has a fine tradition of achievement in academic, sporting and cultural areas. Of prime importance is the need for a close cooperation between the home and the school. Through this cooperation we will encourage the development of each student, both as an individual and as a member of various groups. Barooga Public School's motto is 'Participate to Achieve', and from this students will gain the respect of parents, teachers, fellow students and the community. Significant programs at Barooga Public School include: Support Learning to assist students with their learning needs; Reading Recovery available for students in Year 1; 'You Can Do It', a student welfare program which develops skills to succeed - focusing on persistence, organisation, getting along, confidence , resilience and values; Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden involving practical, healthy learning for life; Environmental Education Integrated Computer Technology. Each class has an Interactive Whiteboard (Smartboard) and multiple networked computers. * Gifted and Talented opportunities to excel. Barooga Public School participates in the Country Areas Program (CAP), from which it receives significant funding for programs and training aimed at overcoming rural isolation. The school's ample playground and facilities provides an ideal venue for its Active-After Schools Communities program. This provides supervised sporting activities each week for children after school. A healthy afternoon tea is also supplied, all at no cost. The Parents and Citizens Organisation is highly active and supportive of the school's activities. The school prides itself on its involvement in the local community at a variety of different events. Barooga Public School received the Director General's School Achievement Award for Student Welfare and its 'You Can Do It' program, as it was the first fully accredited 'You Can Do It' school in NSW.
