Balgownie Public School
Balgownie Public School has a strong tradition of academic excellence and connection with its local community. The school motto 'Living and Learning'; is a focus for the overall development of our students each year. Our core values developed by staff, students and parents are Respect, Responsibility and Real Learning. At Balgownie Public School our major purpose is to create a happy and safe school environment where all children can confidently develop as individuals. Students are constantly encouraged to explore, extend, be challenged and do their best. Our school continues to offer its students a quality public education within a dynamic learning environment. A dedicated team of experienced teaching and support staff help the school achieve its mission by providing a range of academic, creative, pastoral and technology programs which focus on developing our students' life-long love of learning. Students at Balgownie Public School are expected to wear their school uniform with pride, practise the core values of our school community every day and engage fully with the current learning and teaching programs. A balanced and engaging curriculum is combined with a range of extra-curricular activities that further encourage students to develop their abilities and interests. Students benefit from a range of educational experiences, including a strong record of academic performance; participation in regional creative arts programs; school, district and state sporting activities and up to date technology programs. We provide excellent assistance for students with additional needs through a comprehensive support program which is managed by a competent and caring learning support team. We emphasise nurturing links between junior and senior students with ongoing support and pastoral programs. These programs also include anti-bullying strategies such as Peacekeepers in the Playground, the Bounce Back program and the Positive Behaviour for Success program. We have a comprehensive transition to school program with Year 6 buddies to mentor new kindergarten pupils whilst the Year 6 students participate in a twelve month program to transition successfully to their local high school through a range of activities including subject specific workshops in Science, Mathematics, Technology and Visual Arts. The school plays an important role in the community by providing students and visitors alike with a unique opportunity to learn alongside a functioning museum on the school grounds.
