Appin Public School is a growing semi-rural school located southeast of Campbelltown along the road to Wollongong. Our school boasts large attractive playing areas and excellent facilities, including modern classrooms, a school hall and a very well-resourced library. Appin Public School's focus is on providing a quality teaching and learning environment which provides strong foundations for learning in all areas of the curriculum, assists all students to achieve their individual learning goals in English and Mathematics, promotes excellence at individual ability levels and develops self-esteem, confidence and independence. Our school is an Early Action for Success school which is achieving at the "Excelling" level in K-3 student growth in literacy and numeracy. Appin Public School has a dedicated and highly qualified teaching staff skilled in meeting the diverse needs of students from those who are gifted and talented through to those who require additional support with their learning. The genuine relationship between staff, students and Appin families ensures our school maintains a high standard of academic success in a positive and nurturing environment. Technology is an integral tool in teaching and learning programs throughout the school with classrooms having access to laptops, iPads, interactive whiteboards and two mobile computer labs. Teachers use these as tools to promote student learning and engagement in their classrooms. Appin Public School offers engaging extracurricular academic, cultural and sporting opportunities for its students. These include a Senior Dance Group and Senior Choir that performs at school functions and Southern Stars in August each year. A Junior Dance Group and Junior Choir caters for the K-2 students and prepares them for school assembly performances. Students with an interest in the environment are catered for with the Eco-Committee that audits the school's use of water and electricity and monitors the recycling of school rubbish and a weekly Garden Club that grows vegetables and propagates plants. A whole school public speaking program develops students' skills and confidence in preparing an engaging talk on a given topic and delivering this to a peer audience. Years 3-6 students participate annually in a Public Speaking Competition. Appin Public School students also participate annually in the Premier's Reading Challenge, Premier's Spelling Bee and Premier's Sporting Challenge. Sport is an integral part of our school culture and is highly acclaimed in the local community. Students have access to a range of sporting activities each year, encouraging them to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Years 3-6 students participate in Gala Days in Terms 2 and 3 where our school has an excellent reputation for sporting achievement and sportsmanship. Each year many of our students are selected to represent the Zone and Region at the Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals.
