Aberdeen Public School

Aberdeen Public School provides an attractive learning environment overlooking the picturesque Hunter River. The school draws students from the town and surrounding agricultural areas. Employment is mainly from the coal mining, horse breeding and farming industries. The core values of our school are Respect, Responsibility and Honesty. These values underpin all relationships within our school community. We acknowledge the successes and achievements of our students at our regular assemblies and in print. Aberdeen Public School's culture embraces success for all through the provision of quality learning programs which support students to realise their full potential in a friendly, safe and caring environment. Our school offers a range of educational, sporting and cultural programs that provide for the diverse needs of our students. We have a strong reputation in the community for our band, dance and healthy lifestyle programs and are developing strong debating, public speaking and drama programs. Our skilled and dedicated teachers are continually updating their skills by engaging  in up to the minute professional learning in order  to provide the best quality education for our students. This, along with well-resourced classrooms, the continual upgrading of facilities and attractive grounds ensure students are well equipped for learning. Our Mission is 'Quality Education, Preparing Students for Life'. We achieve our mission by recognising the individual differences and needs of our students and providing the support necessary for each student to achieve their best. We have a proactive learning support team which meets weekly and provides excellent support strategies for our students. Our programs include Reading Recovery, Language Learning & Literacy for Kindergarten, Language  Learning  & Literacy for Stage 1,  Language  Learning  & Literacy 2 for Year 2, Multilit and QuickSmart. A unique feature of Aberdeen Public School is its size; we are big enough to offer a diverse and interesting curriculum with a range of extra-curricular activities but small enough to ensure every student is known across the school community. Aberdeen Public School communicates effectively with parents/carers and the wider school community. We send out a regular school newsletter, include articles in local papers and regularly update our Skoolbag and Facebook page. Our teachers are always happy to talk to parents and carers about their child's progress. The school actively supports community celebrations and has participated in a range of community projects including: Anzac Day, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Eisteddfod, Strathearn Village (aged care facility) visits, Kia-Ora Music Camp and Aberdeen Community Caring projects and events.
