As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the 2024-25 Budget is delivering record education funding, including $3.6 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.

A project is underway to upgrade Birrong Boys High School and Birrong Girls High School. The project will deliver facilities, to support the learning needs of the local community.

The upgrade to Birrong Boys High School will deliver improvements to the existing multipurpose hall and covered outdoor learning area, additional new learning spaces, new specialised learning spaces for science, food technology and materials learning, new administration and staff areas, refurbishment of the student support unit and improvements to landscaped outdoor areas.

The upgrade to Birrong Girls High School will deliver a new multipurpose hall and covered outdoor learning area, additional new learning spaces, new visual arts learning unit, refurbished materials learning unit, new administration and staff areas, and improvements to landscaped outdoor areas.

Progress summary

Construction is progressing well at both school sites.

At Birrong Girls High School, the new administration and teaching building (Building K) is now almost complete with some spaces already being occupied by staff and students. Work to connect the new substation to the building is underway which will allow for the building lift to become operational.

In the new hall (Building J), the exterior work is finished, scaffolding has been removed, and work in the ceiling, upper walls, sports floor and tiling in the wet areas is complete. Work to install the remaining services including pipes and cables is complete.

At Birrong Boys High School, the new classroom building (Building N) is also substantially complete with most spaces in the building now occupied by staff and students. External works, including the new main school entry via Cooper Road, are ongoing.

In the refurbished hall (Building I), the walls and ceilings and change rooms are complete, preparation for the flooring work has begun, and the interior work such as installing and sanding flooring, and inserting changeroom partitions has started.

Next steps

In the upcoming month we will be focused on completing the sports halls and external landscaping works for both schools and progressing stage 2 works which includes minor refurbishment of some pre-existing facilities. At Birrong Boys High School, the refurbishment will be to areas within General Learning (Building A), Student Support Unit (Building D), and Fitness Centre (Building G) and at Birrong Girls High School the Materials Learning Unit (Building H) will be refurbished.
