Cooler Classrooms Work Experience program to commence in Term 4

Release date: 17 November 2020

School Infrastructure NSW, in conjunction with the Cooler Classroom Program, is about to roll out a new work experience program for year 9, 10 and 11 students, with a strong focus in regional areas. The initial stage will involve six students working on Cooler Classroom projects in Junee and Parkes Public Schools, commencing in late Term 4 2020.

SINSW will provide the students with personal protection equipment (to keep once the experience has finished) and fund the cost of the mandatory NSW ‘white card’ required to enter a construction site. The program will be a great way for these students to gain insight into the infrastructure industry and the diverse careers available and requires no prior experience. The program will provide them with an excellent learning experience covering electrical installations, air conditioning and refrigeration, site coordination and client communications.

In addition to providing excellent opportunities for students, the program also offers tremendous benefits to contractors involved in the Cooler Classroom program. Training students and providing them with on-the-job employment experiences is a great way to support local communities, particularly in regional areas where opportunities for work experience and employment are becoming limited.
