NSW Public Schools receive $2.5 million sustainability grants

Release date: 24 February 2020

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell has announced the 194 recipients of the inaugural $2.5 million Sustainability Schools Grants program.

Awards ranging from $1100 - $15,000 have been granted to public schools across NSW as part of the new student-led program focused on improving the environment at schools.

Schools and preschools from regional and metro areas applied for the first round of grants with plans for innovative sustainability projects such as kitchen gardens, water storage strategies, and even bee highways to improve biodiversity.

Curlewis Public School Public School was awarded $5000 for its clever plan to create a bush tucker and native plant garden.

At Blakehurst High School, a $15,000 grant will go towards a landcare and biodiversity project.

The Sustainability Grants program, which provides a total of $10 million over four years, is open to all NSW public schools and preschools with the next application round open in November.
