The sky’s the limit as Homebush West Public School students return to $30 million upgrade

Release date: 26 January 2019

Homebush West Public School’s $30 million upgrade is now complete, with students and teachers free to enjoy the new facilities provided by the NSW Government.

The rooftop playground and sporting field were completed over the school holidays in time for the start of the new school year.

The state-of-the-art facilities provide 26 new teaching spaces, a covered outdoor learning area, a new canteen, two sporting courts and an innovative rooftop play space and outdoor learning area.

The upgrade has also incorporated improved landscaping, new breakout spaces as well as a modified administration and staff area.

All classrooms will be air conditioned as part of the NSW Government’s Cooler Classrooms program that is seeing air conditioning delivered in thousands of classrooms across the State.

To further expand play space for students to enjoy, the NSW Government purchased a nearby former Anglican church, and secured an agreement with Council to close part of Exeter Street. When complete, this will create a substantial recreational space for use by the school and for public use after school hours.

Homebush West Public School is the one of two major school upgrades being delivered in the Strathfield community for the start of the school year. Both are using innovative design methods to maximise space and provide outdoor play space for students.

The upgrade at Homebush West Public School is one of 17 new and upgraded schools opening across NSW for the first day of the new school year.

The NSW Government is investing $6 billion over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $847 million is being spent on school maintenance over four years. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
