New Rainbow Street Public School set to open

Release date: 26 January 2019

The new $30 million upgrade to Rainbow Street Public School has been completed in preparation for the return of students for the new school year this week.

The upgraded primary school provides vital education infrastructure for local families, increasing capacity of the school to 1,000 students to cater for growing enrolments in the area.

The upgrade provides 35 new classrooms, four special purpose spaces, plus a new library and canteen. The school has also received important refurbishments and upgrades to five existing classrooms, its main block and school hall.

All classrooms will be air conditioned as part of the NSW Government’s Cooler Classrooms program that is seeing air conditioning delivered in thousands of classrooms across the State.

In the Coogee area, major upgrades to Randwick and Rainbow Street Public School have now been delivered, with community consultations underway for upgrades at Randwick Boys and Randwick Girls High Schools.

Rainbow Street Public School is one of two major projects opening in Coogee, with 17 new and upgraded schools opening across NSW for the first day of the new school year.

Rainbow Street is an important project as it is designed to be highly inclusive. The two new lifts and covered walkways provide improved access to the school for everyone

The NSW Government is investing $6 billion over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, $847 million is being spent on school maintenance over four years.
