New hive set to buzz with busy bees at Randwick Public School

Release date: 26 January 2019

The $9 million redevelopment of Randwick Public School has opened ahead of the return of students for the start of the new school year.

The upgraded primary school is a huge win for local families, increasing the school’s capacity to 1,000 students to cater for growing enrolments in the area.

The upgrade provides 10 new flexible classrooms, which will be air conditioned as part of the NSW Government’s Cooler Classrooms program that is seeing air conditioning delivered in thousands of classrooms across the State.

The new classrooms are located in a unique new building called the Beehive, which is designed in the school’s black and yellow colours and decorated with ceramic bees crafted by students.

In the Coogee area, Randwick and Rainbow Street Public School upgrades have now been delivered, with community consultations underway for upgrades at Randwick Boys and Randwick Girls High Schools.

The finishing touches will be completed on the newly created outdoor learning environments within weeks, providing a diverse range of outdoor teaching spaces. The school hall is also being extended to reflect the growth of the student body.

A total 17 new and upgraded schools opening across NSW for the first day of the new school year.

The NSW Government is investing $6 billion over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, $847 million is being spent on school maintenance over four years.
