Whole-of-government cleaning contract sites

• Optional online drop-in sessions for site managers to help prepare for the new cleaning services arrangements in January 2026. 
• Quick Reference Guides available for site managers to help users learn the new FMClean platform, including how to manage cleaning requests, provide feedback, and monitor service delivery. 
• Schools and participating sites (excluding those in the Hunter and Central Coast) will be advised of their appointed cleaning service provider once contracts are finalised in mid-December. 
• Hunter and Central Coast schools will receive confirmation of cleaner and area supervisor appointments as recruitment and placement activities are completed.
• Programmed vacation cleaning will proceed during the summer period. As the Cleaning Services program enters a peak transition phase in January, there may be some adjustments to the timing or delivery of these services. Every effort will be made to minimise any disruption.

• The NSW Department of Education begins managing whole-of-government cleaning contracts across NSW. 
• Cleaners in Hunter Central Coast commence employment with the NSW Department of Education.

• Site managers at participating facilities in the Hunter Central Coast will be informed of their assigned cleaning staff and regional supervisors. Additional training opportunities will be available to support schools and sites as they begin operating under the new cleaning service models and using the FMClean platform.

Regular: Day-to-day cleaning activities required to maintain a sanitary, clean, and tidy environment that supports the core function of the facility.

Programmed: Periodic or deep cleaning tasks that are necessary to maintain hygiene and presentation standards but are not required daily.

Cleaning services that are within the scope of the contract but are required in addition to the standard cleaning entitlement for a facility. These services involve the increased frequency, intensity, or volume of existing cleaning activities in response to specific or ad hoc needs.

Additional Cleaning is typically required when areas covered under Regular or Programmed Cleaning are subject to increased, unscheduled, or extended use. For example, if a school hall is hired out over the weekend, Additional Cleaning may be required before school resumes.

This will be requested through FMClean.

Cleaning services that fall outside the standard cleaning entitlement and are only delivered when specifically requested by the Facility Manager or the Principal’s (DoE’s) authorised representative through a formal order. This will be requested through FMClean.

Optional cleaning includes:

Proactive Scheduled Cleaning: planned, non-routine cleaning tasks carried out at scheduled intervals to maintain hygiene, appearance, or functionality beyond standard daily cleaning. For example, Periodic carpet cleaning, High-access window cleaning (above two metres)

Reactive (Emergency) Cleaning: unscheduled, urgent cleaning services required in response to incidents that pose an immediate health, safety, or security risk to the Facility and/or its occupants.

A Quick Reference Guide on the escalation process and handling cleaning request needs will be shared in late December and available on the Facilities Cleaning Contracts website.
